Should I choose an Top mount, Under mount, or Flush mount sink? Kitchen design changes constantly, and in relation to sink types, there are many to choose from. Which one is the best for your new kitchen? Each sink type has it’s pros and cons, and we’ve put them here to help you make a more informed choice.

  Top mount:

  • Easy to clean
  • Easiest of all sink types to install.
  • Bench tops are generally more cost effective with such sinks.

Undermount:

  • Sink cut out edges are totally exposed, and more prone to chips or breakage if a heavy item is dropped on this edge.
  • Bench tops costs increase due to additional manufacturing required with such sinks.

Flush mount:

  • Sink cut out edges aren’t as exposed as on undermount sinks, but benchtops costs increase due to extra manufacturing time involved in making the top of the sink flush with the benchtop.
  • A 1-3 mm gap is required around the whole sink (as per most sink manufacturer specifications). This can fill will dirt and grime, and can be harder to keep clean.

So, which one is best? This is a personal choice, but for ease of installation, cost effective bench top manufacturing and longevity the Top mount sink wins hands down. With such a sink type, there’s no need to worry about chipping stone edges (as such damage is costly to repair). Also, with the many modern styles on the market, you’ll have no problems choosing a sink to suit your application.
